Comparing two school magazines

From looking at both of the magazines I have made good and bad points about them and how I feel they could be better.

The text in the independent school is a mix of different types the magazine gets that boring look. The magazine has enlarged the important words, 'Parent'. This shows the reader that this magazine is aimed at the parents of the children.

Because the text is a range of different texts it makes the reader feel more intrigued because it shows the school isn't afraid to be adventurous and outgoing. Some of the writing is small and could make some of the readers struggle to see what it say, this will then make the reader more likely to not want read on. The colours of the text and the colour range is purple and pink, this makes the reader wonder whether this school is just for girls because they haven’t clearly stated that on the front of the magazine. There can be different views from different people such as:

1. This school is very dedicated to sport and they have a lot of their clubs based around that which makes students not think that the school offers more; the parents could like the picture because then they know their child will be keeping fit and stay healthy.

The text from the Griffin is not very good compared to the independent school; all of the text in the poster is small and really quite boring. When you look at the page you want words to jump out at you but this magazine does quite the opposite. The reader’s eyes are more inclined to looking at the picture other than the text which could have been more important. The colour of the magazine is all the same colours. The background has a tint of purple, the text is a mix of purple and black and the border is purple. The Griffin have tried to be safe in the magazine so that they don't go wrong but by doing that they have caused problems in the look of it because the stereotype of 'posh' schools makes them look boring and not likely to take any risks. The students that are in the picture don’t make the school look better they just draw your attention away from the text and the picture is not even been well took. In most school magazines the logo of the school will be enlarged so that the reader will be likely to remember it and relate it to the school. The logo in the Griffin is in the bottom left and doesn’t grab the attention of the reader because it is black and blends in with the whole magazine.

I feel that the target audience for these two magazines are different; the independent school is aimed at the parents of the children who may want to attend the school and the Griffin is aimed at the pupils that are in the school and are trying to give off a more relaxed vibe but this hasn't worked and now looks stupid.  Both of the magazines have to sticker effect; this looks messy and doesn’t even look good. The griffin’s have the top of the sticker peeling of which makes the magazine look like it has been made by an unprofessional, who doesn’t know what they’re doing.
