Different research methods

Researching methods
Now that I am starting my main task I need to start researching. I have made some notes on different types of researching and their meanings. To start with, the four different types of researching are Primary, Secondary, Quantitative and Qualitative.

PrimaryThis is when you find out the relevant information out yourself, without using anybody else's research. The different forms of Primary research are:

  • Questionnaires
  • Surveys
  • Interviews
  • Focus group
  • Phone call
  • Letter
  • Email
  • Textual analysis
Secondary
This is the type of research that you get from somebody else. You can get this information from many places such as books. Here are examples of different secondary research:

  • Books
  • Internet
    - Search engine- Google, Bing, Yahoo etc.
    -Industries- BBC etc.
-Websites which have been made my individuals
  • Newspapers
  • Magazines
  • Journal
QuantitativeThis type of research is to do with numbers and patterns. If you had done a survey and had got an outcome of 4/5 then it would be Quantitative research. Some examples of Quantitative research are:

  • Questionnaires
    Positive
    -
You are the one who writes the questions, so you can have your questionnaire about what ever you want.
    Negative
    -
The people that you are giving the questionnaire to may not understand the questions and could get confused about what you are asking of them.
-Some questionnaires are long and that could be a reason for people to be put off because it could be time consuming for them and they don't want to spend a long time doing something that they may not be interested in.
    - The person with the questionnaire could make the people feel uncomfortable and from that the answers could be biased to what they believe the questionnaire person feels and not what they feel. This would make the questionnaire useless because there are not true answers.
  • Surveys
-A survey could make people uncomfortable because you could be putting them on the stop and they just say what ever because they don't want to stay in the same situation.
QualitativeThis method is to do with people's opinions and words. There are different ways that you can get Qualitative research such as:

  • Questionnaire
  • Focus group
  • Survey
  • Phone call
Anything where you are asking people their opinions/views on things then you need to make sure that you out them in a comfortable position.

These are the different types of research methods, i will be sure to use these and take them on board when making my magazine. To get the best research you need to sometimes look in places that you might not think about. Finding research from different methods such as Qualitative you might find out about something that you may not have if you used the Internet or books.
